An integrated multimedia campaign that brings together government, community, science, education and industry experts to celebrate and promote Tasmania’s – Great Southern Reef.

The Project

On the 41st parallel, at the southern tip of Australia, lies an island famed for its spectacular wilderness: Tasmania. Beneath its waters lies a hidden world just as wild but even more beautiful. A refuge to some of the rarest and most endangered species on earth. A Tasmania few have ever seen.

Tasmania Down Under: the Great Southern Reef.

Tasmania Down Under is a comprehensive impact environmental, science, education and tourism campaign that will put the spotlight on Tasmania’s spectacular and precious marine environment. These cooler temperate waters remarkably rival any tropical reef in colour and diversity. It’s one of the State’s best kept secrets, until now.

Tasmania is one of the most biologically diverse marine environments on the planet. Over 80% of the marine life found here is found nowhere else on earth, including the the endangered Red Handfish, Maugean Skate, dragons that sparkle like jewels and towering kelp forests. Parts of Tasmania’s waters also boast the highest known marine plant diversity anywhere in the world.

Who would have thought? No one and that’s the problem.

The challenge is how to get people to care for something that they don’t know exists. So we’re supporting a team of talented national and international partners to take the colour and diversity of Tasmania to the masses using world-class imagery in a series of high profile media platforms commencing with a blue-chip natural history documentary.
