Alan White Library

Centralised quality educational resources are an essential tool for empowering local communities with the knowledge to create long-term sustainable change. This is magnified in developing countries where resources are limited.

To compliment the work of the Saving Philippines Reefs program and to address this issue the Unico Conservation Foundation was proud to work with the Coastal Conservation and Education Foundation (CCEF) to establish the A. White Library and Coastal Resource Management (CRM) Learning Centre in 2005.

The library’s name-sake recognises Dr White’s incredible work and commitment to marine conservation in the Philippines and as founder of CCEF.

The A. White Library

The goals of the library are to:

  • Increase the interest and enthusiasm of local government officials and the local communities to manage their coastal resources by learning more about the coastal environment and its ecosystems;
  • Increase their awareness of the importance of conservation of coastal resources; and
  • Educate locate communities on how to manage their coastal resources in a more socially responsible and commercially viable way that supports sustainable coastal and marine resources.

Unico Conservation Foundation continues to work with the CCEF to improve and support the library, which has become a valuable resource in the community.
